Frequently asked questions
- What does the trip cost planner calculate?
- It breaks a trip into four explicit lines: flights, your accommodation-and-living stay for the chosen number of days, a visa line where one applies, and a buffer percentage you control. The result shows the total and spreads it across a monthly savings target, so you can see what a trip actually costs per month to save for.
- How is this different from the budget calculator?
- The budget calculator gives you a single all-in daily figure. This one itemises — flights, stay, visa and buffer each get their own line — and adds a savings goal and currency conversion. Use the budget tool for a quick range, this one when you are working out what to set aside.
- Are the flight figures live?
- No. They are dated baselines held in our cost dataset, not live fare quotes, and they assume a single traveller. Actual fares move with season and booking window, so check a live fare search before you commit. The dataset stamp is shown with the result.
- What do the traveler count and buffer do?
- The traveler count sets how many people the total covers — it defaults to 2, so the headline figure is a group total rather than a per-person price. The buffer is a flat percentage added on top of the subtotal, defaulting to 15% and adjustable from 0 to 50. Both are visible inputs, so you can change either and see the total move.
- Is the total adjusted for the season I travel in?
- The daily stay cost is scaled up or down for the month you pick, using each destination’s peak-season months from our dataset. It is an adjustment to the daily band, not a live price feed — a destination we have not verified shows no multiplier rather than a guessed one. The scaling is folded into the stay line rather than itemised separately.
- What is not in this total?
- Insurance, airport transfers, tips, excursions, and anything the dataset does not hold for your destination. It is a planning figure built from dated baselines, and it does not replace checking the actual price of the specific trip you are booking.
